Kamalei was on cloud nine yesterday by taking 2nd place at this years Xcel
Pro at Sunset in perfect 6-8 waves. He was on fire all day and won all his
heats leading into the final. He actually won all but 1 heat in the whole
contest. Pancho Sullivan took the lead from the start, but Kamalei was right
behind him the whole time getting huge set waves, getting barreled and and
doing the sickest turns.
In the last minute, Kamalei took off on a set, got barreled, did 2 turns and
then got another barrel.....we all thought he moved to the lead.He needed
8.75, the judges gave him 8.45.
With this 2nd place, he now is automatically in the Triple Crown of Surfing.
Haleiwa starts next wed, then Sunset again and finishing at Pipe in Dec.
